Games

All of the games, except Noughts & Crosses, can be played by 2 to 4 players or played in teams if more than 4 want to play and most of the games can be played alone as practice. We recommend recording your score when practicing to monitor your progress as your putting skills improve and new personal best scores are achieved.

Each game should be played in the spirit of golf and players should be given a head start (a handicap) at the start of the game if possible based on their ability and previous scoring to keep the games competitive. Players of lower ability can also be allowed to play from a position closer to the target on some of the games and can be allowed to play with more than one ball on some games to give them more than one opportunity to hit the target in the same turn.

The order players putt should be agreed before the games start and you can decide the order of play by putting to the curling circles with the players ball closest to the centre circle going first, next closest going second and so on.

Each game has 2 levels of difficulty the level should be agreed before you play:

Amateur - Scoring is awarded if any part of the ball touches the target with the highest scoring zone touched counting.

Pro Level - Scoring is awarded based on the centre of the ball touching the target, players should stand directly above the ball to determine if the centre of the ball is resting on the target. Note: The Pro level of play is significantly more difficult than Amateur.

There are many ways our games can be played we encourage everyone to experiment with the games to find the format you most enjoy playing.

Curling Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using three balls per player and the target is the red, white, blue circles with the hole in the middle shown below. Choose the area of the mat to putt from for example behind the 8 feet line or closer if you prefer. Decide the order of play and change the order after every round so that all players get a chance to play first and last. Player 1 putts their first ball to the curling circle target, followed by player 2 with their 1st ball, continue playing in turn until every player has putt all 3 balls.

The objective of the game is to score as many points as possible by having as many of your 3 balls all resting inside the curling circles as close to the centre as possible at the end of each round. All balls that have scored count for each player and the score of each ball is: 4 for the blue circle, 5 for the white circle, 6 for the red circle and 10 points for the hole in the centre, no points are awarded for any balls resting outside the circles.

A key strategy of the game is to knock your opponent’s balls out of a scoring position and to block your opponents from rolling their balls into the centre of the target. The game can be played over as many rounds as you wish but players should have an equal number of opportunities to play first and last during the game (ie 3 players should play over 3, 6, 9 or 12 rounds or 4 players over 4, 8, 12 or 16 rounds). If you need more than the 9 spaces on the scoreboard total the scores, wipe the 1 to 9 squares & record the score from box 1.

As an alternative to the game described above a simpler game can be played with only the player whose ball is closest to the centre spot scoring 1 point for each ball that is closer to the centre than any other player. This scoring method is more in line with conventional curling on ice.

Pong Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using one ball per player and the targets are the triangle of circles numbered 0 to 9 shown below. Choose the area of the mat to putt from for example behind the 0 feet line or closer if you prefer. Decide the order of play and continue playing in the same order. The objective is to putt the ball to rest on each of the 10 holes in any order with the ball being removed from the mat after every turn.

The player who ticks off all 10 holes first is the winner however if more than one player completes all 10 holes on the same turn they all go to a sudden death playoff with play continuing to hole number 9 continuing to play until only one player holes during the turn and is crowned the winner.

Tick the boxes on the scoreboard as each hole is achieved, use the Total column to record when the 0 hole has been completed.

If you want to play a quicker game you can choose to play fewer holes for example holes 0 to 5 or holes 0, 6 & 9 or any permutation you prefer.

Pyramid Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using three balls per player and the target is the pyramid drawn through the curling circles shown below. Choose the area of the mat to putt from for example behind the 8 feet line or closer if you prefer. Decide the order of play and change the order after every round so that all players get a chance to play first and last. Player 1 putts their first ball to the pyramid target, followed by player 2 with their 1st ball, continue playing in turn until every player has putt all 3 balls.

The objective of the game is to score as many points as possible by having as many of your 3 balls all resting inside the pyramid with points being awarded based on which scoring zone, separated by black lines, the ball finishes in marked on the mat 4, 6, 10 or 15 points per ball.

A key strategy of the game is to knock your opponent’s balls out of a scoring position and to block your opponents from rolling their balls into the highest scoring zones. The game can be played over as many rounds as you wish but players should have an equal number of opportunities to play first and last during the game (ie 3 players should play over 3, 6, 9 or 12 rounds or 4 players over 4, 8, 12 or 16 rounds). If you need more than the 9 spaces on the scoreboard total the scores and record in the total column, wipe the 1 to 9 squares & record the new scores in the numbered boxes. Repeat again if required updating the total column before the scores are wiped.

The winner of the game is the player or team with the highest points total, if players have the same total at the end the game is tied.

To make the game more challenging you can choose to deduct points from players on all balls that sit outside of the pyramid or alternatively deduct points on any balls that are past the pyramid -5 or -10 points will add more drama to your game.

Pool Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using one ball per player and the targets are the triangle of circles numbered 0 to 9 shown below. Choose the area of the mat to putt from for example behind the 0 feet line or closer if you prefer. Decide the order of play and continue playing in the same order. The objective is to putt the ball to rest on each of the 10 holes in order starting with hole 0 and finishing with hole 9 with the ball being removed from the mat after every turn.

The player who holes the number 9 hole first is the winner however if more than one player completes all 9 holes on the same turn they all go to a sudden death playoff with play continuing to hole number 9 playing until only one player holes during the turn and is crowned the winner.

Tick the boxes on the scoreboard as each hole is achieved, use the Total column to record when the 0 hole has been completed.

If you want to play a quicker game you can choose to play fewer holes in consecutive order for example holes 0 to 5 or holes 0, 6 & 9 or any permutation and order you prefer.

Penalties Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using one ball per player and is played between the triangle of circles numbered 0 to 9 and the Noughts & Crosses grid of holes 1 to 9 shown below. Decide the order of play and continue playing in the same order throughout the game. The objective of the game is to score 9 penalties in order 1 to 9 by putting the ball to holes 1 to 9 in either of the two targets.

Play is alternated after every turn between the two targets playing up and down the mat and the ball is played from and to the hole the player is trying to score, for example when the player is trying to score their 5th penalty they play from and to hole number 5. Only after the penalty is scored does the player move on to the next hole.

Play starts with each player taking their penalty from the number 1 hole on the triangle of circles, scoring the penalty if they land their ball in the number 1 hole on the Noughts & Crosses Grid. If the player misses they take their next penalty from number 1 hole on the Noughts & Crosses Grid to hole number 1 on the triangle of circles only when they score the penalty do they move on to hole number 2.

The players ball is removed from the mat after every turn. Tick the boxes on the scoreboard as each penalty is scored.

The player who scores the 9th penalty first is the winner however if more than one player scores the 9th penalty during the same turn they all progress to a sudden death playoff to decide the winner with play continuing to hole / penalty 9 playing up and down the mat until only one player scores during the turn and is crowned the winner.

If you want to play a quicker game you can choose to play fewer penalties / holes for example holes 1 to 5 or any permutation and order you prefer.

Killer Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using one ball per player and the objective is to putt the ball to come to rest on the 5 black bars at 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 Feet. Every time you miss one of the black bars you lose a life. Players start with 5 lives and the last player with a life is the winner.

Choose the area of the mat to putt from for example behind the 0 feet line. Decide the order of play and keep to the order throughout the game. Players take it in turn to putt to the black bars starting with the closest at 4 feet. Once all players have taken a turn they move on to the next closest black bar and after the 5th / furthest black bar at 8 feet has been played they move back to the 4 feet black bar and continue playing until a winner is crowned.

During each turn the ball must come to rest on the black bar in play, if not the player will lose a life. Once all 5 lives are lost the player is out of the game. The winner is the last player that has a life but to confirm the win they must land their ball on the black bar target in play, if they miss play moves on to the next black bar target and the players left in the game have the life they lost during the turn reinstated.

Corners Game:

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using one ball per player and the objective is to putt the ball from the orange Tee spots in the 4 corners of the mat to the holes numbered 1 to 4 along the side of the mat as per the image below.

Decide the order of play and keep to the order throughout the game. Choose the corner to start the game from and take it in turn to land your ball on the 4 holes on the opposite side of the mat starting with the closest and ending with the furthest away. Once all 4 holes have been played continue in a clockwise direction to the next corner and repeat until all 4 corners have been played 16 holes in total.

A point is scored for every hole made with no points being scored if the hole is missed. The player with the highest score after all 4 corners have been played is the winner the maximum score that can be achieved is 16. This game will test players ability to adjust their alignment from challenging awkward positions to targets that vary in line and length.

Noughts & Crosses Game

This game is played by 2 players or teams using one ball and the target is the grid of 9 holes shown below. Choose the area of the mat to putt from for example behind the 8 feet line or closer if you prefer. Decide which player will play first and which player will be 0 and which will be X.

The objective of the game is the same as traditional noughts & crosses trying to achieve 3 in a line but players have to putt the ball to rest on one of the 9 holes in the grid to claim the square for themselves as a 0 or an X. If a ball misses the target holes or lands in a hole which has already been claimed play moves to the next player to take their turn. The game is over when one of the players has achieved 3 in a line, a drawn game occurs when it becomes impossible for either player to achieve 3 in a line.

The reverse side of the scoreboard contains a grid to record the 0 & X each player has claimed.

A more difficult variation of this game is for players to nominate the hole they are targeting before taking their putt. The player will not claim any hole if the targeted hole is missed.

Score 18 Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using three balls per player and is played to either the triangle of circles numbered 0 to 9 (more difficult as the holes are spread out) or the Noughts & Crosses grid of holes 1 to 9 (easier option as the holes are closer together) shown below.

Choose the area of the mat to putt from & decide the order of play and continue playing in the same order throughout the game. The objective of the game is to score points with all three balls by putting to the target holes, the points scored being the number of the hole the ball is resting in. The score is calculated after the player has putt all three balls, if their points total is 18 their score for the turn is doubled to 36 points. No points are scored if the ball misses the holes.

The objective of the game is to score as many points as possible in total and scoring 18 points in a turn to double your score whenever possible. The game can be played over as many turns as you wish.

Shuffle Board Game

This game is played by 1 to 4 players using three balls per player and the target is the end of the mat with the Putt2Win logo printed on it shown below. Choose the area of the mat to putt from for example behind the 0 feet line or closer if you prefer. Decide the order of play and change the order after every round so that all players get a chance to play first and last. Player 1 putts their first ball to the end of the mat, followed by player 2 with their 1st ball, continue playing in turn until every player has putt all 3 balls.

The objective of the game is to putt balls to the end of the mat with the ball closest to the edge, without going over the end, winning the turn and scoring points based on the position of all 3 of their balls that lie in the scoring zones 1, 2 & 3 which are separated by white lines. For example: in the image below orange has won the turn and has balls in zones 1, 2 & 3 and scores 6 points. No points are scored for any balls that are not resting on the mat.

A key strategy of the game is to knock your opponent’s balls out of a position closest to the edge of the mat or those in a high scoring zone and to block your opponents from rolling their balls to the edge of the mat.

A simpler version of the game above is for all players to score points based on the resting position of all three balls regardless which player is closest to the edge of the mat. This format still encourages players to putt to the edge of the mat into the ‘3 point zone’ for extra points which in turn puts them in danger of being knocked off the mat more easily by their opponents. A great game of tactics and risk / reward.
